Kinship care is the full time care, nurturing and protection
of children by relatives, members of their families,
or any adult who has a kinship bond with a child. Kinship
Services supports the concept of children residing with
a relative in a family setting, rather than being placed
in an out-of-home placement.
There are approximately 2,400 grandparents, and another
500-1000 relative caregivers providing homes, food,
clothing and loving care for more than 4,500 children
in Sonoma County. Many caregivers have been thrust into
this position of great responsibility almost overnight.
Through Kinship Services, we will provide an array of
services designed to provide caregivers, and the children
they are raising, the tools they need to be successful
in carrying out their challenging responsibilities.
Some of these services will include respite care, support
groups, mental health services, resource workshops,
food and clothing assistance, educational advocacy and
legal counseling.
Sunny Hills Services is proud to be a collaborative
partner of KINS, the Kinship Initiative Network of Services.
The KINS collaborative partners are comprised of Sunny
Hills Services, the Junior League of Napa-Sonoma, and
Grandparents Parenting
Again, with the support
of Sonoma County Family Youth & Children's Services.
Together we serve as an advisory committee for the Sonoma
Kinship Center.
Sunny Hills Services is the managing agency of the
Sonoma
Kinship Center, located in downtown Santa Rosa.
We partner with a variety of community agencies and
organizations to provide professional services and support
to kinship caregivers and the children they agree to
raise. For more information, please visit the Sonoma
