Robin Hughes - Program Director,
Sunny Hills Adolescent Treatment
Hughes has 17 years' experience with Sunny Hills
Services. Prior to her appointment as Program Director
of Sunny Hills Adolescent Treatment, she was a Sunny
Hills Adolescent Treatment counselor, night counselor,
and cottage supervisor, and a teacher's aide at James
R. Sylla School. Prior to joining Sunny Hills Services,
she worked for two years at Cancer Care Options, a nonprofit
corporation providing information on cancer treatment
options to cancer patients, and completed a one-year
internship with autistic children while an undergraduate.
She also has a corporate background with 15 years' experience
in San Francisco corporations Budget Rent-A-Car, Lawrence
Systems, and Nu-Cold Containers. At Sunny Hills Adolescent
Treatment, Hughes oversees campus supervisors, the recreation
program, intake interviews and tours, initial clinical
assessment history, and safety. She holds a Bachelor
of Science degree in Psychology and Biology from Stockton
State College, NJ.
Jodie Mathison, MA - Principal,
James R. Sylla School
Mathison has seven years' experience in children's mental
health services. Prior to joining Sunny Hills Services,
she was principal and teacher at Lincoln Child Center
in Oakland and has taught children who had problems
with the law in rural Africa. She received her Master's
degree at Holy Names College in Oakland and has teaching
credentials in math, government and special education.
At Sunny Hills Services, Mathison oversees all James
R. Sylla School teachers, contract staff and social
workers in addition to the curriculum, program planning,
budget, CQI indicators and various events. She was nominated
to be on the board of CAPSES (California Association
of Private Special Education Schools).
Jolene Yee, MA - Principal,
Marin Academic Center
Yee has worked for Sunny Hills Services for almost
19 years, first as a Children's Garden Latency Age Treatment
special day class teacher in September 1986. She was
promoted to her current position in 1995. Her previous
work experience includes two years as a Resource Specialist
in the central valley, mainly for a migrant population.
Yee also started a Special Education resource classroom
in a San Luis Obispo school for one year before moving
to the Bay Area and Sunny Hills Services. She holds
a BA and California state regular education and special
education certifications, with an emphasis in working
with Learning Handicapped children (Resource Specialist
Credential). She is currently working on her masters
in Educational Administration and an additional certification
for administration.
Ariel Spindell, MFT - Program
Manager, Grant Grover Day Treatment Program
Ariel began his career as a line counselor at the
Devereaux Institute for DD and SED children while getting
his BA at UCSB in Psychology & Sociology. He worked
as a second and third grade teacher, assisting in the
design and teaching of an advanced Montessori School
Curriculum. He then worked as an assistant supervisor
and counselor with high functioning DD adults through
MARC. While working towards his MS, he interned as a
MFT at Family Service Agency of Marin, serving children
and families in Marin City. He completed his internship
at Project Destiny LCC, providing individual and family
therapy. He served as a case manager for at-risk children
and their families, providing wraparound services in
a federally funded pilot program. He has spent the last
year working as a residential therapist in the Children's
Garden Program. He received his California license in
Marriage Family Therapy in 2005.
America Grajeda, MA - Director,
Community Based Programs
Grajeda holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and
a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis
on Marriage and Family Therapy. She is currently working
toward her licensure. Prior to joining Sunny Hills Services,
Grajeda worked with SED children/youth as a teaching
assistant, mental health counselor, behavioral specialist,
therapist, mentor, and supervisor in multiple settings
(public school, day treatment, residential, home, and
community programs). As the director of Community Based
Programs, she oversees Grant Grover Day Treatment, Braun
Day Treatment, Blended Classroom, and Therapeutic Behavioral
Services. She is a member of the California Association
of Marriage and Family Therapists and a certified trainer
for ProAct.
Susie McGavin, MFT - Director,
Kinship Services
McGavin holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling
Psychology from Dominican University and is a Licensed
Marriage and Family Therapist. She began her tenure
at Sunny Hills Services in 1997. Since that time, McGavin
has provided therapeutic services to children and families,
clinical trainings to residential counselors, clinical
supervision to MFT interns, assisted in the production
of agency training and promotional materials, and served
on the agency's Health & Safety Committee. Besides
being the Kinship Director for Sunny Hills Services,
McGavin serves as the Director of the Sonoma
Kinship Center, a program managed by Sunny Hills
Services for Sonoma County Family Youth & Children's
Services. McGavin serves on the KINS Steering Committee,
as well as the Santa Rosa Junior College's Foster &
Kinship Care Education Advisory Committee, working with
other organizations to develop kinship services throughout
the North Bay Area. McGavin maintains memberships with
the California Association of Marriage & Family
Therapists, the American Adoption Congress, the Post-Adoption
Center for Education & Research, the California
Parenting Institute, and sits on the Board for the Junior
League of Napa-Sonoma. She also possesses a Bachelor
of Science degree in Graphic Design and operates a home-based
art business.
